The Back Loft

The Back Loft is a vibrant, open-plan multi disciplinary space located at the back of La Catedral Studios. This bright and spacious loft, minimally refurbished to preserve the raw texture of its previous charm, is an inspired space which functions as an informal and unconventional artists' playground suitable to embrace any art-related project.

The space may be hired for art exhibitions, live art events, acoustic music showcases, intimate performances, cross media salons and theatre plays, rehearsals & drama workshops, dance, life drawing, photo and film shoots and multi media projections.

The Back Loft is open to both individual and group projects, work in progress and experimental, adventurous site-specific work, and is an ideal springboard for emerging artists.

We are always looking for proposals from cross media performers, artists, collectives & curators interested in hiring out the back loft. For more information on the technical spec details click here

La Catedral Studios is a space for the arts in a reclaimed Victorian industrial building located around the corner from NCAD at the heart of the Liberties, (Dublin 8), one of Dublin's oldest quarters. Named after a tango venue in Buenos Aires, La Catedral Studios now houses 24 artists' studios and an adjacent spacious multidisciplinary space (the Back Loft).

Established in 2005 by Antonella Scanu and Costanzo Idini, La Catedral Studios is a veritable labour of love by its founders and an army of friends who worked on the painstaking conversion of a run down industrial empty shell back to its former glory which now host a thriving artistic community in a space where art making and its creative process is as important as the finished work itself.

Where to Find Us

The Back Loft venue is part of 'La Catedral Studios', located on 7-11 St. Augustine Street (turn right at Living Quarters furniture shop on the top of Thomas Street/Cornmarket - opposite Tivoli Theatre/Francis Street). We are the second building on your right - the pink door with a 'La Catedral Studios' sign on it!

Alternatively, turn right after the Brazen Head (Dublin's oldest pub, off Merchant's Quay), then take your next left onto St. Augustine Street. See you there - with luck!

Buzz for admission if closed.
